Frequently asked questions

Yes. The following items can't be delivered to participating Post Offices:

  • Letters and standard mail that can be delivered to your letterbox
  • Express Post letters
  • Parcels heavier than 22kg
  • Parcels greater than 105cm in any dimension
  • Parcels where there is a payment required on delivery
  • Parcels that are damaged or unsuitably packaged
  • Parcels delivered by a courier that has chosen not to deliver to a Parcel Collect location
  • Parcels containing perishables
  • Parcels delivered by any carrier outside of Australia Post or StarTrack.

Parcels containing alcohol will only be permitted if the customer is 18 years of age or over and has verified their identity and date of birth.

Parcel Collect is only available for items lodged with Australia Post or StarTrack. Other delivery companies can only deliver to a Post Office via your Parcel Collect address if they pay to Australia Post to lodge the parcels with our network.

Yes – but it depends on the overseas delivery company.

If a parcel enters the Australia Post network from overseas, it’ll be successfully delivered to a Post Office via your Parcel Collect address. However, not all parcels will enter the Australia Post network once they arrive in Australia.

Parcels will enter our network from an overseas country if they are sent by that country’s designated postal operator – for example Royal Mail in the UK or USPS in the US.

If a parcel is sent to Australia from an overseas country not using that country’s designated postal operator – for example a courier company like DHL or FedEx – it will enter our network, only if the delivery company pays Australia Post to deliver the parcel.

In most cases, you can nominate someone else to collect a parcel or letter from the Post Office for you.

If you can’t make it to the Post Office yourself, you can either:

  • arrange for someone else who lives or works at the delivery address to collect it for you
  • give someone else authority to collect for you. To see the ways you can do this, visit collecting a parcel from the Post Office

At the Post Office counter, we’ll ask them to show proof of identity. If the item they’re collecting was sent to a Parcel Collect address or transferred from a Parcel Locker, they’ll also need to show the collection notification email or SMS we sent you. At the counter, they can show the email or SMS – forwarded by you – on their phone, or present a printout of the email.

Signature required items

In some cases, though, the sender may require that you collect and sign for the item in-person. This means you can’t authorise someone else to collect it for you. If you’re ordering something online, you should be made aware of this when placing your order.

To have parcels delivered to a Parcel Locker or Post Office from your list of saved collection points in MyPost, simply:

  • Provide your full Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address to the sender of your item, OR
  • When shopping online, at the checkout write your Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address in the place of your regular address

To find your address, log in to MyPost and select ‘Collection points’.

Don't forget, you can redirect a parcel to your Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address through MyPost, too. If this option is available, you’ll see it in your tracking list.

Please note: You need to add each Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address you want to use to your MyPost account. If you use an address without adding it first, you won’t receive notifications and your parcel may be returned to the sender.

Terms and conditions apply. Collection time limits apply. Items must be lodged with Australia Post to be delivered to a Post Office. Trading hours may vary. You have 10 business days to collect your parcel once it has arrived at a Parcel Collect (Post Office) location. Post Offices will accept parcels up to 22kg and not greater than 105cm in one dimension. Letters and standard mail that can be delivered to your letterbox, including Express Post letters, will not be accepted. Please refer to the full terms and conditions for further details.
